Philomusica String Quartet

  Fine Arts at First will present their fifth concert featuring the Philomusica String Quartet on Sunday, January 24 at 3:00PM , atthe First United Methodist Church in Kenosha. The concert entitled – “Russian Reveries” will include Alexander Borodin, String Quartet No. 2 in D Major, Alexander Glazunov Five Novelettes for String Quartet, op. 15, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Opus 11 “Accordion”
 
  In the fall of 2008, the Philomusica Quartet embarked upon their debut season as the resident string quartet of the Wisconsin Conservatory in Milwaukee, WI. Violinists Alexander Mandl and Jeanyi Kim, violist Nathan Hackett, and cellist Adrien Zitoun came together for one purpose: to create an artistic outlet in which they could express and share their love of performing chamber music.   Each member brings a wealth of diverse experience as a performer and educator, both locally and internationally. Mandl and Kim, a husband-and-wife team, equally exchange roles as first and second violins in the Philomusica Quartet.
 
  Alexander Mandl has been acclaimed as one of the foremost violinists and conductors of Brazil. He has appeared worldwide in venues such as Weill at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Memorial Hall of Latin America. He is the Concertmaster of the Kenosha Symphony, Beloit-Janesville Symphony and Assistant Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Mandl is a faculty member at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and UW-Parkside.
 
  Jeanyi Kim is the Associate Concertmaster (Third Chair) of the Milwaukee symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, the Toronto native has performed in illustrious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre, Salle Pleyel, and the Concertgebouw. She has been a Guest Assistant Leader of the London Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev.
 
Violist Nathan Hackett is a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He is Principal violist of both the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Hackett is an active chamber musician, performing with many of Milwaukee’s leading musicians in recital series for the Wisconsin Conservatory, Wisconsin Lutheran College and most recently with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faculty.
 
Cellist Adrien Zitoun joined the Milwaukee Symphony in 2001. In his native land of France, Mr. Zitoun performed with the Ensemble Orchestral de Macon and Symphony Orchestra of Lyon-Villerbanne and taught at the Privas and Brignais School of Music. As an active teacher, Mr. Zitoun is on the faculty at the Wisconsin Lutheran College, Cardinal Stritch University and has a private student studio.
 
The concert is free and open to the public. A “meet the artist” reception will follow the concert.
